Helping Animals Live Tomorrow Rescue

A nonprofit organization

Starting  out  as  a  few  dedicated friends  with a  common  vision of  making a difference for  dogs  in our  community we  formed  Helping Animals Live Tomorrow  Rescue (H.A.L.T.)   That was  in 2008  and every  year  since  we have  saved and  rehomed over 100 dogs. To  some  that  may  be  a small  contribution  but  to the lives  of  the dogs  we  rescued  it is  monumental. Rescue is vital!  It  steps in when hope  is  gone. We  are  there  for the last chance dogs  and the families  who  have  exhausted  all options  and  are giving up.  Take a minute to look at one of our 2020 success stories. It is the story of Maribel. She was found in the middle of nowhere and was suffering from the worst skin condition we ever witnessed. Today, 100% recovered and looking beautiful. Today Maribel is living happily in her forever home as well as many other dogs  who have crossed our path.

Every dog entering our  program receives  care  and love until  it is  placed with its' adoptive family.  The majority  of  our  dogs are foster based however some of our larger dogs  reside at our  kennel facility with a  full  time caretaker. Our  dogs receive daily socialization,  outings and training.  We  get  to know  our  dogs  very well which  allows  us  to  find  suitable  matches to  an adopter.  Each  dog that enters  a home  is  fully vetted by being  altered, vaccinated  and  microchipped.

We care  about  all dogs  in  our  community  and have  created  Hunter's Fund which provides assistance to pet owners in financial need of  veterinary care in times of emergency.  Visit www.haltrescue.org  to learn  more  about this program.

We are reaching  our  youth  through education!  H.A.L.T. Rescue currently oversees  the  PAWS Education Program  which is  a  standard based week long lesson that teaches awareness  and empathy to  students.  The program  is  a  product of  a Leadership Bakersfield Project  and since the onset of Covid is only by request.  Please visit our www.pawseducation.org site  and view us on Facebook!

In September, 2015,  we  opened  a  resale store  to  support our  rescue  and  raise  funds to add  a spay/neuter aspect to our Hunter's Fund Program.   RAGS to RESCUE  is located  at 234 H Street  and is filled with unique and gently used  donated items  for  your  home and self.  The  store  is slightly thrifty, mostly antique-y  and always artsy!   If  you have not  discovered  it  .....  do  add it  to  your  'to-do' list .... you will be  quite surprised  and  please  tell  a friend. Every  purchase made  goes  directly to supporting the dogs in our rescue program.  You  can  stay  current with  the daily finds  by  visiting Rags to Rescue on FaceBook.

Our  organization  is  100% volunteered  based, We  are supported  through your generosity, adoption fees,  grants  and your  shopping  power at  Rags.  Our adoptable  dogs are listed on Petfinder.com  and  we  are  back  doing  weekly adoption events at Petco, 5151 Gosford Road every  Saturday  from 1-4pm.

This  year, we  look  for  your  support to help us continue reaching  out in the community  conquering pet overpopulation with the solution of spay and neuter. We look forward  to strengthening Hunter's Fund to help  animals  in medical need,  giving them a fair chance of  veterinary care  and a chance of survival.  Your  donation during this campaign will  provide the means for us to continue  to  save dogs and find  them loving, forever homes.

Who We Are

Helping Animals Live Tomorrow Rescue was established in 2008. It began with a small group of friends with the same large ambition to make a difference in the lives of animals with no homes, no where to go, sitting in shelters waiting for the clock to tick out. Since then we have saved over 100 lives annually by finding homes and bringing happiness to dogs that had become destitute. We have provided medical care to countless pets in need, we have provided shelter for dogs on the streets and we have found companionship for some who thought it could not be found.
We are weekly adoption partners with Petco located on Gosford Road. We also participate in many special events throughout the community.
We proudly oversee the PAWS Educate program, which is slowly seeing itself into every classroom in Kern County. This standard-based curriculum is currently geared to Third grade and teaches awareness and empathy of the current dilemma of pet overpopulation and neglect of animals to our youth. It focuses on what a child can do to make a difference.
Our organization is supported by donations, adoption fees, grant funds and our very own specialized re-sale store called Rags to Rescue.
This store located at 234 H Street is supported by community donations and buying power. It supports the general animal needs of H.A.L.T...
