Libraries enrich the lives of everyone in our community, regardless of age or economic circumstance. Children come to pick out a book and enter a new world. Teens rediscover the library as a cool place to meet friends and do homework. Adults learn to use a computer and improve skills that help them find better jobs.

In a time when its operating budget is smaller than ever, the Henderson Libraries relies on the support of the Foundation to continue to provide funds for the following areas:

Library Collections

The collection includes books available at any of the three Henderson Libraries, as well as online and downloadable materials available through www.mypubliclibrary.com. In 2010, patrons checked out 1,842,395 books, audio books, DVDs and other media from the Henderson Libraries.

Outreach Services

Building a literate community doesn’t just happen within the confines of a library. The Henderson Libraries expands its reach into the community by offering programs for children at recreational centers and daycares and reading resources at senior assisted living centers. Moving beyond the walls of libraries is the key to providing lifelong learning opportunities to all of our residents.

Innovative Technology

Each branch offers up-to-date public computer labs as well as online resources and downloadable books that can be accessed from anywhere at any time.

Capital Projects

These types of projects enable the Henderson Libraries to expand its physical presence in communities throughout the city of Henderson, providing services critical to a high quality of life. Capital projects include construction of new locations, remodeling, improving and expanding existing library buildings.

Scholarships

The Foundation, through the Joan T. Wholihan Scholarship, awards an annual scholarship to a qualified individual in Southern Nevada who is seeking a Masters in Library and Information Science.

Libraries today are full of activity. In addition to traditional books, the Henderson Libraries offers public computer labs with free Internet access, DVDs, music and downloadable media for check out. It also offers hundreds of free programs for children, teens and adults every month. In short, by supporting the Henderson Libraries Foundation you are giving the gift of libraries to generations to come.
