The Heritage Preservation Trust was established in 2006. The mission of the Heritage Preservation Trust, also known as Lilian Place Heritage Center, is to work for preservation and restoration of significant, contributing historical artifacts, buildings, lands, and sites in Volusia County through educational programs, fund raising, and grant acquisition.
The Trust has acquired and preserved Lilian Place Heritage Center, the oldest historical site on Daytona Beachside which includes: the 1884 Lilian Place Museum, Carriage House, and the 1905 Hotchkiss House. Lilian Place Museum is open daily for visitors and provides an educational experience about life in the late 1800s. The 1905 Hotchkiss House is the cultural event site offering events with various guest speakers and programs which educate the public about historical times and events.
Our mission is to educate the community on the importance of preservation of our history and heritage through educational programs and the preservation of historic Daytona Beach properties, 1884 Lilian Place and 1905 Hotchkiss House. Visitors can “step back in time” as they visit the historical site and understand the beginnings of the town of Daytona, its people, and how history has impacted the community today.
The Trust is in need of general operating funds as COVID forced closing of the facility for 15 months. With little income and heavy expenses, these donations and Community Thrives Grant is very much needed to continue our mission of preservation and community education!
The Community Thrives donations will also be used to create pictorial displays of founding families. Pictures will be added in the museum of historic people such as Mary McLeod Bethune and Stephen Crane who have greatly impacted Lilian Place and the Daytona Beach community and made Daytona historically significant. We will also purchase and add an Interactive Display for handicapped accessibility to 2nd floor rooms in Lilian Place 1884 Museum. Funding is needed for lighting and informational signs for display exhibits. Reproducing and framing of historical pictures. And the purchase and installation of the interactive monitor and display.
