Hi-Desert Memorial Health Care District Foundation

The Hi-Desert Memorial Health Care District Foundation (soon to DBA Morongo Basin Healthcare District Foundation) has been established to raise funds to support the health and wellness of the Morongo Basin through the services offered by the Morongo Basin Healthcare District.  Programs your financial contribution help support include:

Free transportation to and from appointments for patients.

No cost mammograms for low-income individuals.

Nursing scholarships to Copper Mountain College for residents of the Morongo Basin.

Health education classes for adults and children.

Books given to children to take home after their doctor visit.

Many of the patients who receive healthcare services through the District are those who are most in need in the Morongo Basin.  Often they would not be receiving the necessary care were it not for the availability of free transportation to and from their appointment.  Our Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) program ensures that they can make it to see the doctor.

It is proven that women who are over the age of 40 can reduce the potential life threatening risks of breast cancer through annual mammography.  Our Healthy Basin Breasts program provides scholarships to those who need it most. Additionally, those exams can take place using 3-Dimensional (3-D) Tomosynthesis at Hi-Desert Medical Center.  This modern technology is not avialable anywhere else in the area and is proven to reduce the rate of call backs and to be more effective in the detection of breast cancer.

The Martie Avels Nursing Scholarship Fund provides an annual scholarship for a Mornogo Basin Resident to complete the Registered Nursing (RN) program at Copper Mountain College.  Upon graduations and licensure, the student then applies for acceptance into the Versant RN Residency Program at Hi-Desert Medical Center (HDMC) and, upon acceptance, will complete an 18 week nursing residency with continued employment at HDMC for at least three years.

Our newest outreach program targets the school age patients seen at the District's Family Health Clinics.  Children who are seen at our clinic in Yucca Valley or Twentynine Palms will receive an age appropriate book to take home with them as a reward for their bravery.  This program replaces the traditional "sticker" given to youngsters and supports their academic endeavours.
