HIGHLAND AMBULANCE BUILDING FUND

After 10 years of renting space in the Goshen Fire Department station, Highland has embarked on an ambitious program to build our own facility. This building will offer several advantages including; office space, training room, day room,bunk rooms and decontamination shower. At this point we have raised over $150,000 in cash and in-kind donations. Please join us in helping to support this important endeavor.

Highland Ambulance EMS is a private non-profit Paramedic level ambulance service that provides emergency response by contract to the towns of Ashfield, Chesterfield, Cummington, Goshen, Plainfield and Williamsburg. These communities cover an area of 160 square miles with a total of approximately 8,000 residents. Highland also provides emergency response to contiguous towns through mutual aid agreements.

Highland staffs it’s ambulances with Massachusetts certified Paramedics and Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT’s). These individuals are trained in CPR, airway management, I.V. therapy, and Pharmacology for emergent care with medication administration and monitoring. They are also trained in Cardiology, with ECG (electrocardiograms) which allows them to perform 12 lead ECG diagnostic monitoring. Diagnostic monitoring allows for cardiac treatments and procedures, including defibrillation, cardioversion and pacing. They are also skilled at assessing and initiating care       for all medical and traumatic emergencies. Their goal is to stabilize patients prior to arrival at the hospital Emergency Department, where they will transfer care to Emergency Department staff members.

As a result of the small population in Highland's service area, funds received from emergency transports are not sufficient to fully cover operating expenses. Highland relies on a strong level of public support to maintain a high level of training and up-to-date equipment. Since Highland started operations in 2004, over $400,000 of grants and generous donations have been received to help fund our operations.
