Hands On Atlanta’s mission is to mobilize the Atlanta community to tackle our city's most pressing needs, with a focus on education and youth development. Hands On Atlanta began with an informal meeting amongst 12 acquaintances who wanted to serve the under-resourced communities of Atlanta. Today, more than 16,000 volunteers participate in Hands On Atlanta service projects benefiting 125 community and nonprofit agencies and public schools annually.
Hands On Atlanta advances its mission through two program areas:
Education Programming: Programs addressing inequity in education among Metro Atlanta's most vulnerable youth represent one of Hands On Atlanta's strongest core areas of work. Hands On Atlanta supports under-resourced students through schools-based tutoring, weekend enrichment, social and emotional learning (SEL), and food assistance. This academic year, 50+ AmeriCorps members support more than 1,500 students daily across 16 schools in Atlanta Public Schools, Fulton County, and Cobb County.
Civic Engagement Programming: We convene 125+ nonprofits and public schools, 70+ corporate partners, and dedicated community volunteers to improve our city. Programs include capacity-building for nonprofit partners on volunteer management, deploying volunteers to partner organizations, and hosting city-wide days of service. Our volunteer workforce enables nonprofits to meet high demand for services with fewer staff, specifically in the areas of Education and Youth Development, Food Insecurity, Environmental Justice and Sustainability, and Digital and Virtual partners.

"...I'm honored to be an AmeriCorps member-the opportunity to play a role in helping someone who truly needs help..."-Stephen Holland
"..Dedicating yourself to service is a great way to learn about yourself and figure out your future while being an asset to your community. Serving others is one of the most rewarding things you can do with your life. AmeriCorps will test your patience, flexibility, and emotional strength; but you will come out of it a better person with a brighter future for yourself and your community..."-Tessa Schussler
