The mission of the Holy Name Men's Club is to continue the tradition of excellence through athletics, education and spiritual development for the children and families of greater North Omaha, Holy Name Parish, and Holy Name School. The Holy Name Men's Club became the foundation for the continued success of the athletic programs and maintenance of the Field House. The men committed themselves to the young people of the parish, school and neighborhood. In December of 1950, the dedication of the largest field house in the state once again put Holy Name on the map. Over the next seventy years Holy Name has been home to some of the finest coaches and student athletes in the city of Omaha and the State of Nebraska. In September of 2024 the newly renovated building is open to the community, the children are back! Now our work continues for Phase II to maintain the building for the next 100 years.
Restore the Glory is a $5,000,000 campaign to renovate and maintain the Holy Name Alumni Field House.
Phase I (Fully Funded): $3,370,000 establishes a safe physical environment on the Holy Name campus. This includes renovation of the existing Field House with a new climate control system, better emergency egress /handicap accessibility, updated athletic and common spaces.
Phase II (40% Funded): $1,630,000 implements greatly expanded programming for physical education and athletics for youth and adults, space for after school learning and for community activities. Phase II provides for the William F. Giles, III Maintenance Fund to maintain the renovated facility for the future.
Anticipated Outcome / Impact to the Community:
Provide a safe environment for all users of the facilities. Greatly expand the sports and extended learning opportunities for the community at-large. Allow the community at-large to have access to the multi-use spaces.
This newly renovated Field House/Sports complex is greatly needed for many people for league play of many different sports as well as health and fitness activities. There is a great need for available community space for those living in 68104 zip code area.
The Omaha Social Project has gathered important information on the lack of sports facilities in this area of our city. North Omaha (68111) is home to over 23,000 people. There is a total of six gyms within the zip code of 68111. Based on the population, there would be 3,899 people of North Omaha to one single gym. There is one trail that passes through North Omaha and nine total parks within the 5.2 square miles. For 23,939 people, that would make one park to 2,339 people and one trail to the whole population. There are a total of fourteen grocery stores making the ratio 1,671 people to one grocery store. North Omaha has low access to these locations that promote health and fitness based on the people-to-place ratio. (https://omahasocialproject.com/)
