Home On The Range

Every so often, we might need help and find it difficult to ask for assistance. We think we can do it by ourselves.

 

Here at Home On The Range, we pride ourselves in offering help to children and their families. Sometimes they ask for help, sometimes not.

 

Our help comes in a multitude of different forms: shelter, clothing, medical care, opportunity for an education, spiritual development, empathy, structure, guidance, concern, and compassion.

 

We work with some very tough kids. I don’t mean tough in the sense that they are hard to work with. I mean tough in the sense that they can handle almost anything. They have had to become tough to handle the things that have been handed them in their short lives. For them, accepting help can be a very difficult thing to do. They have learned that making themselves vulnerable can get them hurt. It is a very good sign when we start seeing them ask for help.

 

Just a few weeks ago, a former resident called wanting to come back to Home On The Range for a visit. While visiting with the receptionist, the resident asked if the staff remembered when she was taken for a doctor’s appointment, and on a break, they went for a walk together in a nearby park. It really is nice that something that seemed so inconsequential at the time could be such a memorable event to this former resident. Sometimes, it amazes me how these “little” things can have such a big impact on our kids. Then I remember how little of that these children had before and why they needed to be tough.         

 

As an organization, we too, have to ask for help. I worry, from time to time, that people will tire of our requests. But, the truth is, we could not possibly do what we do without you. We count on your support to help make the lives of these children better. It is our hope that you will answer our call for help, and continue to provide financial assistance.
