As a horse trainer and equine behaviorist, Jess Roberts saw time and time again horses that were unable to conform to the “traditional’ training methods. She would meet horses who were shut down, reactive, aggressive or depressed due to the fact that they simply couldn’t fit inside the box of traditional dominance and submission methods.
She also came across many people who had rescued from local horse rescues and ended up with horses that were too much. These people had the best intentions when adopting, but did not always have the financial ability to get the horse the required help. This resulted in unhappy horses and humans, or a horse that was returned to the rescue.
Jess also met many horses who had too much “baggage” to be able to be ridden. Horses who would like to spend their lives just being horses, or doing liberty work and spending quality time with people without being under saddle. The people and rescues who owned these horses didn’t always have the resources available to be able to keep that horse and still achieve their own goals and aspirations for their equestrian careers.
Passionate about being able to help address all of these things, Jess founded the Honor the Horse Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization with the sole purpose of providing rehabilitation, training and, if necessary, a forever home for horses who will not conform to traditional training methods and timelines.
