In 2006, there was a community needs assessment survey sent out to residents in the Hood County Area to allocate resources to address priority needs. The survey revealed the top two priorities being youth and adults substance abuse. From this the Hood County Substance Abuse Council was created. 

The Hood County Substance Abuse Council is a 501(c)3 nonprofit in Hood County. We are dedicated to the prevention, education, and formulation of community efforts to the youth and adults of Hood County in order to decrease substance use/misuse. 

We look to collaborate with local law enforcement, local governments, community agencies/organizations, healthcare professionals, schools, groups, and individuals to take actions that will reduce substance use/misuse in youth and adults in Hood County. 

The 5 main areas of our programs are Education, Assessment, Environmental Change, Prevention, and Collaboration: 

Education - Operation School Supply, Speakers' Bureau, HCN Guest Editorials, and Town Hall Meetings

Assessment - Data Evaluation & School Surveys

Environmental Change - Breathalyzers at Prom, Teen Court, TMAD

Prevention - Medication Lockbox Distribution, Drug-Take Back Days, and Sting Operations

Collaboration - Hood County Sheriffs' Office, Granbury Police Department, Texas A&M Agri-Life Extension, STAR Council, Hood County YMCA, GISD, TISD, LISD, TABC, CADCA, Texans Standing Tall, Rancho Brazos Community Centers, Mission Granbury
