Hoosiers Concerned About Gun Violence Inc

Hoosiers Concerned About Gun Violence (HCGV) works to bring together Hoosiers who seek solutions to the rising tide of gun violence across our state and nation. HCGV was founded in Indianapolis in 1990 in response to the shooting deaths of two parents by their teenage son who had bought the murder weapon at an Indianapolis gun store.  HCGV was incorporated in 1997, and in 2001 acquired federal 501(c)(3) status as a not-for-profit organization.  It is the oldest gun-violence prevention organization in the state of Indiana. HCGV conducts community education through virtual forums and community meetings about the risks of guns at home and on the street. Our members also speak out on legislation to reduce too-easy access to guns.

Through the LEADERSHIP PROGRAM IN GUN VIOLENCE PREVENTION Hoosiers Concerned About Gun Violence will strengthen participation in gun violence prevention among high school and college age people in Indiana.  The program will increase young people’s knowledge in dynamics of gun violence and prevention, the legislative process and policy advocacy, development of skills for positive peer influence and for bringing about public action. 

The stage at hand is to conduct a period of planning to lay a firm foundation for the youth leadership program including strategic community collaborations and sustainable funding.
