Hope For Desperate Hearts

Helping Immigrants from Africa living throughout NYC - regardless of religion, country of origin, or ethnic background Hope For Desperate Hearts (HFDH), a 501(c)(3), has been working to improve the quality of lives for the African immigrant community in New York City since 2017.

No African Hungry Program We partner with African churches and associations in New York City to identify Africans facing food insecurity. We provide hot meals through a partnership program with local African restaurants in Brooklyn, Manhattan, the Bronx, and Queens. This is also a great support to independent African businesses because it provides a dignified way for them to make ends meet through meaningful work, rather than hand-outs.

Coats for New Immigrants With winter approaching, we are planning to have coat drives for our African community, especially for new immigrants.

Backpacks for Children We provide backpacks to the African immigrant children before the school year begins.

Metro Cards for Students and Low-wage Workers We support students and low-wage workers in our community with Metro Cards to ensure that they can get to and from work.

Mobile Food Pantry We coordinate with local organizations to make fresh produce available to those facing food insecurity in the African community throughout New York City.

Holiday Gifts During Ramadan, sweet meals and beverages become the main dishes and drinks for the African Muslim community. The increased use of sugar results in increased expenses for the families. In 2022, Hope For Desperate Hearts started supporting the African Muslim community with sugar to ease their extra expenses during the month of Ramadan. At Christmas, we distribute toys to make the holidays a little brighter for African children. Your donation will help us improve the quality of lives for the African immigrant community throughout New York City. Thank you,
