About US:

Hope of Guinea is a 501c3 nonprofit organization started in 2010 to invest in the education of children from underprivileged backgrounds in Guinea. We provide scholarships to children who would otherwise be unable to attend school due to financial barriers. We have evolved to include projects and efforts to improve the quality of learning and reform the education system in Guinea.

Hope of Guinea is committed to breaking the barriers that prevent disadvantaged children from attending school. When you invest in Hope of Guinea, you invest in the prosperity of young minds. When we educate a child, we not only positively impact his/her life, but that of his/her community.

We are dedicated to ensuring that underprivileged children are not forgotten and given the same opportunity to be a productive part of our society. Education is one of the most empowering ways of breaking disparity across gender and poverty. We believe EVERY CHILD HAS A RIGHT TO ACCESS QUALITY EDUCATION.

Mission:

Hope of Guinea empowers and invests in the education of disadvantaged children and youth at risk in Guinea to realize their full potential and to become leaders of society. By eliminating financial and other barriers to a quality education, we provide lifelong learning opportunities and the hope and tools to bring their dreams to fruition. We do so by engaging with the community and various stakeholders to address the needs and advocate for quality education, community service and policy innovation.

Why Guinea:

Over 60 percent of the Guinean population is between the ages of 0 to 24, with youth literacy rates of 37.6 percent for boys and 21.8 percent for girls. As one of the countries impacted by the ebola virus disease, Guinea’s economic stability has had major setbacks, especially on the education sector.

There are issues with the quality of education in the country. The lack of resources in the education sector in Guinea has led to teacher and materials shortages and as a consequence, poor basic conditions for teaching and learning. There is also an over reliance on teaching methods premised on rote memorization, over classroom methods that promote recognition, decoding and understanding.

With a highly illiterate populous and a 78 percent youth dependency ratio, the Guinean youth are in need of hope. This hope comes in the form of an investment in the youth through a reform of the education system and integration of these educated youth in the economic and full development of the country.

Values:

A world in which every child has an opportunity to be successful!

While all children are born equal, they do not grow up the same and do not receive the same opportunities in life. Hope of Guinea was created to not only to be the voice of disadvantaged children but to support them in any which way possible. We aspire to close the gap between children who have every opportunity to succeed and those who do not. Every successful person has been helped along way therefore it is Hope of Guinea’s mission to give back to its community by putting in place a mechanism that will positively change and enhance many lives. The Board of Directors and Hope of Guinea in its entirety pledges to help promote a better life and better future for the underprivileged. As John F. Kennedy said “Ask not what your country can do for youâ€Ĥask what you can do for your country.”
