Hope Street Learning Lab

A nonprofit organization

$6,094 raised by 46 donors

In October of 2012, the 94th District State Representative Kevin Schreiber, Director of Economic Development Shivosky Buffaloe, and Director of Community Outreach Edquina Washington both from the City of York Government approached Lincoln Charter School about building a garden in the West End of York, Pennsylvania. The school had just completed building a playground funded 100% by community donations coordinated by Anne Clark, Director of Community Outreach for Lincoln Charter School. The Hope Project was presented to Lincoln Charter School as a single school project.
After many months of consideration, the Director of Community Outreach Anne Clark decided to take on the project and create the Strategic Planning Team that would eventually become Hope Street Learning Lab and include all of the schools from the local area including charter, public and private in grades Kindergarten through 12th grade. Getting commitment from all of the schools was a massive task due to the fractured educational system in York Pennsylvania. There had been lawsuits over the different charter schools coming into the area.
However, in February 2013 Hope Street Learning Lab was born with representation from all stakeholders including the schools, residents, businesses, non-profits, church and government representation including the local and state. Hope Street Learning Lab has had tremendous success even though being located in the most economically depressed neighborhood in the State of Pennsylvania. The victory is a large part was due to Lincoln Charter School students, families, teachers, administration and board.

To make York City a healthier place to live through a miraculous partnership that includes residents, students, schools, neighborhood associations, religious organization businesses, and government agencies to grow healthy minds and bodies through education.

The reason you should give to Hope Street Learning Lab has changed the outcome for thousands of children from York City and so far beyond. The learning lab was built in 2012 as the first of its kind learning lab. Every summer children, youth volunteers, and the community have learned about hope, growing vegetables and what urban community is really about. We are a village in the West End Community.
