A large and growing community of our most vulnerable and disenfranchised citizens have been impacted by the epidemic of “what is my purpose”.  Adolescents age out of foster care and there are other at risk adolescents who have dreams and ambitions but often lack the skills and resources to plan for their futures.   Unprepared to reach their potential, these young people are at a high risk of failure. They join the dismal statistics of those who are without high school degrees, in prison, homeless, unemployed, and ultimately on some form of public assistance.

One goal of Hope Road is to help adolescents discover (through introspection and information) what it is they really want to do then we help and encourage them on to focused action toward their goals (which by the way, are absolutely attainable).  By using the concept of self-awareness and self-advocacy, we encourage individuals to get on the road to hope and walk diligently towards becoming successful and productive members of the community.

What is Self Advocacy?

Self-advocacy refers to an individual’s ability to effectively communicate, convey, negotiate or assert his or her own interests, desires, needs, and rights.  It involves making informed decisions and taking responsibility for those decisions. (VanReusen et al., 1994)

Our vision is to see adolescents hit the road of Hope as early as possible.
