Our History

Pathways to Hope for Children (PHC) dates back to November 1987, when the Legislature mandated the creation of an entity whose sole purpose is to target the prevention and early intervention of abusive behaviors toward children and plays an active role in responding to the Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act. Pathways to Hope for Children was founded as the Shasta County Child Abuse Prevention Council and in 2016 changed our name to the Shasta County Child Abuse Prevention Coordinating Council. Since the late 1980’s we have partnered with many organizations to reduce child abuse and child maltreatment in our community. In 2019 the organization’s focus on creating pathways to hope and healing for children and families lead to a more positive name…Pathways to Hope for Children. We are still the areas child abuse prevention coordinating council doing the same great work, now our name reflects the positive direction our children are focused on…healing and hope!

Our Vision:

A community where all children are valued, nurtured, protected, and therefore will reach their full potential.

Our Mission:

To promote a local culture that values all children and families.

Public Awareness and Education:

In pursuit of our mission of promoting a local culture that values all children and families, Pathways to Hope for Children is dedicated to educating the community about the warning signs and long-term repercussions of child abuse and neglect while offering free support services for parents and other caregivers. Pathways to Hope for Children conducts more than 20 outreach activities and/or events each year in order to distribute evidence-based parenting guides and educational materials such as Triple P, ACES, the 5 Protective Factors, and the 40 Developmental Assets. In an effort to provide education and awareness while keeping costs at a minimum, Pathways also maintains a website with resources and information for partners, parents, and the community (www.hopseshasta.org).

AmeriCorps:

Since August 2006, Pathways to Hope for Children has administered an AmeriCorps program. AmeriCorps is a service program where members serve in social service agencies, nonprofit organizations, and schools as home visitors, parent partners, and tutors/mentors. These unique individuals receive a living stipend, a generous education bonus, and various benefits in exchange for serving their community. AmeriCorps is a federal agency for national service and volunteerism and provides opportunities for Americans to serve and improve the lives of those in their communities. We are still currently hiring for Parent Partners, please submit your cover and resume to hr@hopeshasta.org or for more info visit Click here for more on AmeriCorps

Camp Hope America-Pathways: Camp HOPE America – Pathways is part of the only evidence-based camping and year-round mentoring program in America to focus on youth exposed to domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse.
