MISSION STATEMENT

Horizon Youth Theatre provides training for young people in the theatrical arts through educational programming  and productions with young people as the performers and technicians.

Theatre productions and educational programming will:

  • teach students about theatre through a variety of styles of quality theatre, exposure to all areas of theatrical artistry, and through top-quality teachers
  • provide a professional atmosphere where quality theatre work is expected, positive theatre traditions are practiced, and respect for all areas of production are insisted upon
  • enable students to assume the many responsibilities of a theatrical production, develop their individual talents, and apply cooperative social skills needed to collaborate in the theatre

HISTORY OF HYT

Horizon Youth Theatre was established in 1997 through the combined efforts of Dr. Scott Regan, from the Department of Theatre and Film at BGSU, and Dr. JoBeth Gonzalez, from the Bowling Green High School’s Drama Department, working along with a small group of community members.

After Dr. Regan retired, HYT became an entity separate from BGSU and in 2010 partnered with Black Swamp Players.

HYT is a registered 501(c)(3) organization and (through Black Swamp Players) a member of the Ohio Community Theater Association (OCTA).

NON-DISCRIMINATION STATEMENT

Horizon Youth Theatre strives to create an open and welcoming space for all students and parents, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender/gender identity, religion, sexual orientation, disability, class, nationality, or citizenship status.
