About EveryStep

EveryStep (formerly Hospice of Central Iowa, HCI Care Services & Visiting Nurse Services of Iowa) is a non-profit health care and human services organization which annually serves more than 67,000 Iowans. During life’s most challenging moments, EveryStep’s family of community-based health care and support services offer compassion and guidance. EveryStep’s more than 32 programs offer grief support to those living with loss; care to those who are injured, ill or facing the end of life; baby supplies and education to new parents; and resources and connection for growing families, immigrants and refugees.

About our Stork's Nest program

EveryStep offers several programs to help new moms and growing families get the support they need. One of those programs - Stork's Nest - is an educational incentive program for pregnant women in Polk County who meet certain income guidelines. 

Through the program, pregnant women and new moms earn points for healthy behaviors such as keeping medical appointments, WIC participation, breastfeeding, and school attendance. These points are redeemed through the Stork's Nest for needed baby items such as diapers, clothing, strollers, cribs, and car seats. Participants may remain in the program through pregnancy and postpartum until the baby is 1 year old. 

Babies don’t wait! Normally participants come to EveryStep's Stork's Nest "store" to redeem points and shop for needed baby items. However, during the pandemic, EveryStep has taken steps to protect our clients' health - while ensuring moms and babies get the supplies they need.

• Last spring, EveryStep employees began bringing baby items to clients through weekly doorstep deliveries.
• Recently, EveryStep began offering drive-through events to make it possible for Stork’s Nest moms and babies to get much-needed items, and receive educational resources from EveryStep staff.

The demand is growing among families who need our help as they face unemployment, household changes and difficulties in securing costly baby items. Your support will help EveryStep - and the families we serve - bridge the gap during this difficult time. Thank you!
