At Hospice of North Idaho we believe that everyone in our community deserves to live as fully as possible. We are the only non-profit hospice in the area, so we’re constantly reinvesting in our programs and mission, which allows us to make sure that everyone has access to our services, even if they can’t pay for them.  We’re also dedicated to providing care that goes far above and beyond the care for which we are reimbursed.  This means we provide extra services to patients and their family, are able to visit longer, and provide extra support, like volunteers, pet therapy dogs, and grief and loss services.

In addition to providing superior hospice care for our patients, we are dedicated to serving those left behind.  We have a robust grief and loss program for both adults and children who are dealing with loss.

For Idaho Gives, we are focusing on our children's grief and loss programs.  We're asking you to be a part of ensuring that children and teenagers get the help and support they need following the loss of a loved one, be it a parent, sibling, or other family member.  We are dedicated to providing our programs to the entire community, and to doing so at no cost.  Help us keep these services free to anyone in need by supporting our programing.

Here’s what we know about kids who have lost a loved one:

Grieving children feel less alone when they are with other children who have experienced the death of a significant person and when they have loving, consistent adults in their lives.  More than information and education we can provide for these individuals, allowing children to connect with others who are also grieving is vital.  Additionally, it is so important for children to have adults in their life to provide an environment that is safe for honest expression.  Together, grieving peers and consistent adults foster healing.  That’s exactly how our children’s grief programs work, and foster healing.

Here's how we support grieving children:

  • One-on-one counseling- Children and teens can meet with our trained experts in grief to help work through their loss
  • "Pathways" after school program-Available to any child or teenager children in our community.  This group connect children with peers who are also grieving and is run by trained staff and volunteers.
  • Camp Kaniksu, summer grief camp- Our summer camp takes place at Camp Lutherhaven on Lake Coeur d’Alene.  This year, our 4th annual camp will take place July 10-12 and is available for any child faced with the loss of a loved one.

OUR GOAL: We’d like to raise $5,000 today to go towards these programs!  You can help us by making a donation to Hospice of North Idaho.
