HIV/AIDS has the potential to devastate not only the lives of individuals, but also those of their families. Although there is no cure yet for HIV/AIDS, great progress has been made on the medical front to treat and manage the illness. Yet, low-income individuals and families lack the financial means to access the medical interventions that enable them to live a long and healthy life. And they oftentimes lack the resources to access the emotional support they need to stay well. Many feel lonely, isolated, desperate, and hopeless.
For these HIV-positive individuals and their families, House of Ruth is a lifeline to the basic needs and comprehensive medical and mental health services that are vital for their survival and quality of life.
We provide a holistic approach by housing those infected or affected by HIV/AIDS, as well as providing assistance with other basic needs – food, rent, utilities, bus tickets, and prescriptions. Additionally, we offer case management, life skills workshops, social events, substance abuse treatment, and activities geared specifically to children.
