#GivingBack. #GivingFoward. #GivingTuesday! Giving Tuesday is Tuesday, November 29th!  Check out HIF's #GivingTuesday fundraising page at HIF for #GivingTuesday - help us reach our $15,000 goal to help 10 additional families this holiday season!

100% of your donation goes directly to support HIF's programs. The organization’s unique framework has remained the same since its inception: the Board of Directors provides all operational funding so that 100% of fundraising contributions go directly to the organization's programs.

Emergency Housing Fund Program

HIF provides emergency housing grants of up to $2500 for rent or security deposit to enable households to sustain or achieve stable housing. HIF partners with over 30 nonprofit organizations to help identify households at risk of homelessness or who are already homeless, and HIF can issue a check directly to landlords in just 24 hours.

Meet a Grant Recipient: Robert and Liliana had a one-year-old daughter and were engaged to be married, but didn’t have much time to be excited about the future. They lost their housing when the relative they lived with moved away and they couldn’t cover the rent on their own – even with their income from multiple jobs. After alternating between friends’ couches, their car, and motels for several months, they finally found an apartment that they could afford. The security deposit, however, was more than they could scrape together on their own.  A grant of $1000 from HIF helped the family overcome homelessness and finally have a place to call their own.

Shelter Renovation Program

HIF provides renovations at no charge to housing facilities operated by other nonprofit organizations. Renovations range from landscaping to roofing, and are completed by mobilizing both professional industry partners who donate time or materials, as well as volunteers from the community.

Meet a Renovation Partner: Next Door Solutions is a nonprofit that has provided support to local domestic violence victims for nearly 40 years. They operate an emergency shelter in a five-bedroom, 100-year-old home in Santa Clara County where 19 women and children can stay at a time.   The wear and tear caused by so many people, combined by the typical issues of maintaining an old home, was impacting residents and staff alike.  Next Door’s priority was the replacement of the worn flooring, but HIF wanted to do more. HIF provided new flooring, interior paint, bathroom vanities, shower fixtures, kitchen appliances, updated furniture, and an irrigation system for the front yard.  Volunteers spent nearly 250 hours to complete the work and the market value of the repairs topped $50,000, though HIF spent just $16,000.
