For 20 years, Housing Initiatives has ended homelessness for 600 people with severe mental illness by providing them with a permanent, supportive home. We're proud that 95% of our clients never return to homelessness and live healther, independent lives.

Every dollar you give to us through the Big Share goes to our A Place to Call Home project that is creating more desperately needed affordable housing to permanently END homelessness for 50 more Madison neighbors within the next year.

"We had it all. Jobs, a home, a life." And then Paul and Julie (pictured above) both lost their jobs in their early 60's. Paul, a Vietnam War vet who still struggles with PTSD, found himself no longer able to do the physical work of a furniture mover. They were soon evicted from their home of 18 years. After 5 years of living on the streets (and under a local park bridge), Housing Initiatives moved Paul and Julie into a permanent apartment home through our A Place To Call Home project.

"The thing I missed most was a hot meal. Nearly all the food we ate for 5 years was mostly out of cans. We are so grateful for our home. I've been cooking up a storm ever since!" - Julie

Paul and Julie were two of the first people we've assisted through our new project, A Place to Call Home. With your help, we'll house 50 more neighbors who are currently homeless and struggling with severe mental illness by purchasing apartment buildings to create more permanent, supportive homes.
