Along with genomic research, educational outreach is a key component of HudsonAlpha's mission. The institute's dynamic educators inspire Alabama youth to pursue careers in science, while creating a more biotech-literate community.

More than 40,000 minds throughout Alabama schools are expected to be enriched through HudsonAlpha's educational outreach programs from August 2011 to August 2012. This will happen by reaching students, educators and lifelong learners through a variety of ways including:

• BioTrain internship program for high school, college and post graduate students
• Summer camps for middle school students
• Genetic Technologies for Alabama Classrooms professional development workshop for high school biology teachers
• Biotechnology Guidebook for Alabama teachers
• Digital education (iCell, Progess of Science timeline)
• Biotech 101 and 201 education series
