Mission

The Humane Society of Carroll County, Inc. attempts to alleviate the pain and suffering of animals. It also attempts to educate the public about their needs, shelter the lost and unwanted, reunite and adopt as many as possible and enforce the laws pertaining to their regulation and humane keeping.

Programs

The Animal Care, Animal Control and Office Staff works diligently to respond to thousands of questions, concerns and requests for assistance received from the public. During 2004 they handled, processed and cared for more than 6000 animals. (everything from dogs, cats, birds, snakes and small pocket pets to emus, goats, horses and cattle and much more.) The staff maintains records of all lost as well as found animals and closely monitors those lists to reunite owners with lost pets and livestock. The Animal Control Officers respond to complaints of alleged neglect and cruelty hundreds of times a year and do everything possible to improve the living conditions. Often they convince the owner to turn the animal over to us that we may find it a new and loving home. If warranted we will prosecute abusive owners. When possible we help those citizens in need with medical assistance for their pets. We respond to injured pets when owners cannot be located 24 hours a day and respond to many other animal emergencies during business and non-business hours. Many citizens cannot afford humane euthanasia costs from a Veterinarian at the end of their pets' life and because we don't want an animal to suffer while awaiting funds we offer humane euthanasia at no cost or a donation if the citizen can afford it. There are many other services offered in an effort to serve our community and its animal population.
