Providing help & solutions to Pet overpopulation through our low-cost clinics for Pet owner in need

Did you know that one male and one female cat and all of their

offspring can produce 2,072,514 cats in just 8 years?

The Humane Society of Oldham County works diligently to provide services for the large number of homeless pets in our community.  We offer spay & neuter, vaccine, and wellness clinics, and endeavor to find them loving foster and forever homes through our adoption center.  We provide education and resources for low- and no-income families, like free food and litter which often includes the elderly.  We operate a low- and no-cost spay & neuter clinic weekly for those that could not otherwise afford this service, and we also offer these clinics to other area rescue organizations who have no in-house medical facilities, to our local county Animal Control, and the surrounding underserved Henry, Trimble, Shelby, and Carroll Counties.

Please show your support to this wonderful organization by making a small donation -- our furry friends are waiting for us to help them!

MISSION STATEMENT

Our mission is to rescue and rehome animals in need, to provide low-cost spay & neuter, vaccine, and adoption services, and to safeguard the health and happiness of every animal that comes through our doors. Educate the wider community on responsible pet care via our incredible staff and volunteers while maintaining high ethical standards of financial governance for our organization.

CORE VALUES

Our guiding principles are prevention of animal cruelty, a deep commitment to compassionate and transformative outcomes, and leading by example within our community to protect and promote the health and welfare of creatures great and small.

A Day in the Life of HSOC staff (AND VOLUNTEERS)
  • Counsel with families making the difficult decision to give up their pet due to their inability to care for it.
  • Make decisions on found, hurt and abused animals brought in by individuals hoping to help an animal in need, often in life-threatening situations.
  • Monitor phone calls/visits from individuals requesting help with serious pet issues, e.g., behavior changes, illness, or endangerment to a family member.
  • Approving adoption applications and facilitating adoptions of pets into their forever homes.
  • The caring, cleaning, feeding of dogs and cats housed in our facility; some suffering permanent disabilities or chronic diseases, and many needing extra care through our Forever Foster program.
  • Coordination with County Animal Control regarding abandonment, abuse, neglect or related issues.
  • Offer assistance to problems seen occasionally:  an elderly person living with 8 -10 cats in their home.  Upon further investigation, usually by a family member, the cats are breeding, there is a lack of litter boxes, food and water, and not surprisingly, a serious health issue for them.
  • Take action to curb feral cat colonies taking over a specific area or structure.  Due to breeding patterns this literally creates hundreds of kittens a year unless TNR (trap-neuter-release) takes place.
  • Coordinating with a trainer to manage all aspects of our Camp K-9 dog training program through the Kentucky State Reformatory.
  • Continue our fundraising efforts and outreach to the community and keep our volunteer base strong.
  • AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST, run an efficient low- and no-cost spay & neuter clinic that has many moving parts, from vets to volunteers.  This is the cornerstone of our mission and is making a huge impact on the homeless population in our area.
