Hushabye Nursery

A nonprofit organization

Hushabye Nursery is a beacon of hope in Arizona, where every 12 hours, an infant is born suffering from opioid withdrawal. Founded by Tara Sundem, a neonatal NICU nurse practitioner, Hushabye Nursery specializes in providing best-practice care for babies experiencing Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS) due to opioid exposure. Since opening its doors in November 2020, Hushabye Nursery has served over 800 babies and their families, offering a unique and innovative approach to supporting families affected by opioid and substance use disorders. The organization's mission is to reduce health disparities and improve the well-being of newborns and families by providing compassionate, evidence-based care and wraparound support services to keep families healthy and together.

At Hushabye Nursery, every aspect of care is designed to promote healing and resilience for both infants with NAS and their families. The trauma-informed model of care creates a safe and inclusive space where mothers, fathers, and babies can receive integrative care, therapeutic support, and access to a range of programs and services, including prenatal and postpartum support groups, parenting classes, DCS coaching, and outpatient therapies. By engaging healthcare providers and social service providers in a family-centered treatment approach, Hushabye Nursery aims to empower families, prevent child abuse and neglect, and ensure that infants are discharged to loving and empowered caregivers. Through its groundbreaking initiatives and commitment to holistic care, Hushabye Nursery is not only transforming the lives of individual families but also making a significant impact on the broader community by addressing the challenges posed by the opioid crisis.
