I Love U Guys Foundation

On September 27th, 2006 a gunman entered Platte Canyon High School, held seven girls hostage and ultimately shot and killed Emily Keyes. During the time she was held hostage, Emily sent her parents text messages... "I love you guys" and "I love u guys. k?"
The “I Love U Guys” Foundation was created by parents and friends of Emily Keyes. Her kindness, spirit and fierce joy, and the dignity and grace that followed this tragic event define the core of The "I Love U Guys" Foundation.
In the following years, Foundation members were invited to sit in on school safety conferences, seminars and meetings. They held a few roundtables of their own, and enlisted the help of an Emergency Manager to help with their education.
By 2009 it became clear that they could have an impact on school safety. They started by telling their story, conveying the message that “It can happen here,” no matter what “it” is or where “here” is. They were in a position to turn their knowledge into action. Emily gave them a voice.
