The Idaho Freedom Foundation announced Monday it is raising money to help some struggling families pay for private- and homeschooling options. The fundraiser begins today and runs through May 7, also known as “Idaho Gives Day.” All of the money raised will go to help winning families who have elected to use private schools and homeschools to benefit their children.

Additionally, IFF will match the first $500 raised.

“These families who work so hard and dedicate so much to providing education to their kids deserve recognition and some relief,” said Idaho Freedom Foundation President Wayne Hoffman said. “Personalized education, the kind that enlightens and inspires young minds, isn’t easy, and these families should be applauded for their efforts.”

IFF’s $500 contribution will go to a private school that exemplifies excellence and choice in education.

IFF, Idaho’s leading voice for free markets, limited government and education choice, is working with school choice advocates across the state to nominate families throughout Idaho. Special consideration will be given to families who go the extra mile to provide unique or innovative education experiences for their kids.

“We certainly appreciate Idaho’s hard-working public school teachers, but public school isn’t for everyone. Parents often exercise their choice to send their kids to a private school or to homeschool. These choices cost money, and the burden is often very high,” Hoffman added. “Our goal is to provide some recognition and relief to these parents.”

Idahoans can nominate deserving families at IdahoFreedom.org/Refunds. Recipients will be announced July 31.

The Idaho Freedom Foundation, founded in 2009, supports efforts to give Idaho students personalized and effective schooling, catering to their needs and varying learning styles.

“Kids aren’t widgets; they deserve customized educational experiences that puts their needs ahead of  that of ‘the system,’” Hoffman said.

Idaho Gives Day is a project of the Idaho Nonprofit Center. Nonprofits across the state raised nearly $800,000 for charitable work during 2014’s Idaho Gives Day.
