The Idaho Museum of Mining and Geology was founded in 1989 and is run soley by volunteers. It's located next to the Old Pen in Boise and is open April-October, Wednesday-Sunday, Noon-5pm. It's FREE, although we love donations. The museum has incredible rock and mineral collections from Idaho and the northwest, as well as a mining camp, historic mining elevator, ore carts, blacklight room, seismograph, and so on.

In addition to displays, the mueum offers activities and programs for children and adults, including school tours, Boy Scout loop/pin projects, workshops for both children and adults, full day geology field trips and more.

Gift Shop sales, Membership, the Rock Party, and Donations are how we build our programs.

Join us at the Family Rock Party on September 18, Noon-4:30pm at the mueum. A great time of hands on activity stations for kids and experts on hand for adults. Adults $4, Kids 5-17 $2, Members and kids 4 and younger are free. Sponsored in part by a grant from the Idaho Humanities Council.

Each year the museum board of directors directs funds to programs and museum upgrades. We are proud of our beautiful museum and the range of activities offered to Treasure Valley citizens. Come visit us!
