Immanuel Preservation Society

Since the flood of 2004 destroyed the town of Elkport and left only the community pavilion and the 1889 Lutheran church standing, a small group of former members and interested residents has undertaken the task of raising money to keep the church a historical site marking the existence of the community from its earliest days. Fund raisers such as our German church service in June each year and private donations have enabled us to demolish the ruined parsonage next door and restore the interior to its previous condition.We are now in the process of applying to the National Register of Historic Places and the State Historical Society for historical designation and hope to restore the church for continued use during all times of the year. That will allow us to offer programming that supports the needs of the town of Elkport and provide a repository for materials historic to both the town and the church.
