The Imperial Valley LGBT Resource Center (the Center) was founded in April 2015 by Rosa Diaz, an Imperial Valley native, retired youth correctional counselor and retired social worker. Rosa experienced first-hand the lack of LGBT-safe and -friendly spaces when she lost her position as a church leader after coming out as lesbian. Her passion for improving the quality of life for the LGBT population and her desire to make a difference led her to establish the an LGBT center to address the needs through drug abuse education, HIV testing, individual and family counseling, domestic violence groups, anger management, youth engagement programs, and community events. The IV LGBT Resource Center is the only organization in the Imperial County that takes a staunch stance in defense of all members of the LGBTQ community that provides ongoing LGBT sensitivity and cultural competence training which has been recognized by Assemblyman Eduardo Garcia, Senator Juan Vargas, the El Centro City Council, Black Lives Matter, and IC Board of Supervisors. The Center partners with Imperial County Continuum of Care (formerly known as the Homeless Task Force), Binational Health Week, Community Health Improvement Partnership, Imperial County Behavior Health MHSA Steering Committee, Coalition for a Tobacco-Free Imperial County, Imperial County Public health and the Local Health Authority.
