My name is William Aman. My wife Rebecca and I are parents to 6 beautiful children, 3 of which are on the autism spectrum.
Like many parents of special needs kids, we have been involved in our local autism community for many years, donating our time and being involved in activities and camps all focused on early interventions and geared toward children of school age.
As these children age out of the school system, many become homebound, dependent on state support and thier families and miss out on the opportunities the younger kids have with socialization opportunities.
Inland Sea Aquaponics will be a safe, fun workplace, where these adults with special needs will be able be a part of the workforce, have the opportunity to engage with others and learn valuable life skills, while at the same time participating in a state of the art organic vegetable and fish production operation that we are confident will become self sustaining through local and national markets, internet sales and educational programs.
Aquaponics, is a marriage of hydroponic plant farming (using nutrient enriched water and no soil) and aquaculture ( raising of fish in a cotrolled environment), in a closed loop, with the fish providing nutrients for the plants and the plants filtering the water.
We have designed a closed loop, self sustaing system using the guidlines reccomended by the United Nations Fisheries and Aquaculture Organization (FAO) and will be hiring an expert consultant in aquaculture to giuide us.
Inland Sea Aquaponics has brought together a diverse board of directors including educators, engineers, and local business leaders to make this project a reality.
