As a result of the nation’s ongoing economic recession, the demand for apartment housing in Riverside County has spiked in the last four years, increasing rental rates
to an all-time high. Today, it’s not uncommon for families to live in their cars, emergency shelters, overcrowded apartments or converted garages, many of which do not meet minimum health and safety standards.

The families we serve are considered by the federal government as being “cost burdened” when it comes to keeping a roof over their heads, meaning they often have difficulty paying for other necessities such as food, clothing, and transportation after they pay their mortgage or
rent. We offer affordable housing which ensures that mortgage costs do not exceed 30 percent of a household’s annual income.

Habitat for Humanity provides visible, tangible results. In freeing families from the unending struggles that accompany inadequate shelter, Habitat opens the door to increased self-esteem and self-reliance. Once the stability of a real home is established, families can devote more attention to jobs, education, health – and giving back to the community that gave to them.
