Intergenerational Foster Grandparents Program

A nonprofit organization

6 donors

Once a year, middle school aged youth and senior citizens get to experience the history of the Naval Ammunition Depot east of Hastings through a bus tour.  A local historian informs participants about the use of the buildings, major events, and real life stories from survivors as they are driven from location to location.  During the lunch, participants are able to mingle with each other to learn and enjoy each generation, for their similarities and differences.  A jeopardy game is played to unite the generations as a team.

Each year one school is able to participate.  The spring of 2014 will be the fourth year of the program.  Coordinators would love to offer this program to more schools as it fits well into their history curriculum.  Teachers have asked if they could have this as a part of their regular curriculum - we would love to make this happen.

We are a unique organization because we have only a few people helping organize this project and no money is spent on paying anyone to administer this program.  Every cent of every donation will go right to the program which benefits both youth and senior citizens.  Donations will be used to expand the program to two or more schools each year.  Major expenses include: local Historian's time, Tour Bus, and Lunch.
