Short Summary

We are seeking financial assistance for building a brick, security wall to surround the Daisy Academy primary school campus (1 ½ acres) in Bukura, Kenya.  There have recently been some terrible crimes in the area of Daisy Academy and surrounding area including a vicious assault on the school director and two young adult women who were raped.  There have been two incidents in the past three months from intruders to the campus.  Donations large or small are being sought for the security wall and camera system that will protect both the school and an orphan home that sits on the campus.  

•             The Daisy Academy was built in 2012 and classes started in January, 2013.
• Although there are village public schools in the area, many children from poor families cannot attend because of lack of funds for a school uniform, shoes, and book use fees.
• The Daisy Academy currently enrolls 230 students and is adding a class level each year.
• Slightly more than half of the students receive a waiver for all fees and are provided a    school uniform. 
• The Gardner Granny (orphan) Home was constructed in 2013 and currently has 16 orphans.  It is located on the Daisy Academy campus.  It is named for a beloved, elderly woman who cared for orphans for over 40 years until her passing in 2008. 

 

• The Impact

Although only in the second year, the Daisy Academy has established a reputation as a high quality school.  Many children are attending school who otherwise would not have that opportunity.  Due to the increased severity and number of crimes, the children who attend school and women who work there do not feel safe.  Building the security wall will provide a safe and secure environment for all the women and children who live, attend school, and work on the Daisy Academy campus.
