International Development Missions

IDM was the focus and dream of a few founding members from northern Nevada.  We are a small "grass-roots" non-profit manned by volunteers from the community, university, and faith-based organizations.  Our projects are designed to provide basic life necessities and stimulate sustainable spiritual, physical, and economic growth.  We endeavor to bring resources from our northern Nevada region to help address needs that have been identified by local communities in developing areas.

Our mission is to enhance the health and quality of the life of people in developing countries such as Kenya, Africa. Projects focus on sustainability and address health promotion and disease prevention, access to health care, education, and clean water development. Assistance to communities is achieved through capacity building, resource development, and financial investments. 

IDM built and assists in the administration of a medical facility in the rural Kenyan community known as the Mua Hills. Prior to the construction of the clinic, many in the area were forced to walk long distances to obtain basic medical care (20 km or more!). Medical personnel and educators from Nevada work with IDM by donating their time and talent and assisting with traveling medical clinics and health education programs.  A primary focus is to improve the well-being of women and children in our project areas. 

"Water is Life" We regularly partner with University of Nevada students from a variety of academic disciplines to provide hands-on service learning opportunities.  Students have developed wells and rain-water catchment units for communities with no reliable clean water source.  The 2013 mission trip will include the development of modified rain-water catchment systems designed and constructed by SAIWI students from the University of Nevada, Reno.  IDM also partners with Rotary International to rehabilitate community water systems. 

We are currently constructing a learning center next to the medical clinic.  The center will house a library supplied with books and equipment donated by the northern Nevada community.  It will provide a valuable and much-needed education resource for children and adults living in the area. When completed, the learning center will also offer a staging location for community development educational programs organized and presented by Nevada volunteers.
