The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. At work in over 40 countries and 27 U.S. cities to restore safety, dignity and hope, the IRC leads the way from harm to home.

Right now, the IRC in Boise is great at helping refugees become economically successful:  over 80% of employable refugees supported by the IRC get jobs, and over 92% of the refugees keep the jobs we helped them get.

But we have a real gap in supporting refugee youth.  There are hundreds of youth activities and programs in the Treasure Valley, many of which would take refugees in for free... but we are not...yet... making sure every arriving refugee youth has the opportunity to tell their story and connect to amazing youth programs that abound here.

Your gift will pay for a Summer Youth Caseworker who will set up a new team of Global Youth volunteers to screen every arriving IRC refugee youth between the ages of 15 and 25.  Our Global Youth team will then match each youth to services or activities that will help their dreams grow, and help connect them to our community.  The Global Youth team will make sure all the logistical challenges that are part of refugee work (transportation! child care for siblings!  interpretation!) are resolved so that each youth can actively participate in the programs we found.

By the Numbers

  • Since last summer, the IRC resettled 303 refugees  with only 13 full time staff!
  • 156 newly arrived IRC refugees this year were under 18.
  • 205 newly arrived IRC refugees this year were 25 years old and under.
