How your gifts make a difference…

Since our first field trip in 2012, your support has made it possible for us to offer more than 30 field trips across Iowa.  Nearly 400 young birders and their parents/grandparents have participated

The average age of our young birders has been 10.9; 35% were female and 65% male.

According to post-trip surveys, 2/3 of the young birders reported a change in their awareness of the diversity of birds in Iowa, the impact of habitat conservation and an increase in their ability to make informed decisions about conservation issues.

While our young birders tend to be VERY active birders (80% report birding around home MORE than once a week) for half of the young birders and parents, our trip was their first ever organized field trip.

Parents and young birders give our trips an average positive rating of 4.52 (on a scale of 1 to 5) for pre- and post-trip communications, general trip experience, and the quality of our trip leaders.

98% of our parent and young birder field trip participants are likely to sign up for another Iowa Young Birders field trip or recommend a trip to their family and friends!

94% of the parents indicate they are willing to drive 50 or more miles round trip for a young birder field trip.

 What parents are saying…

“I can’t say enough about how this experience had a positive impact on me and my family. Teaching us to recognize the sounds of birds was a bonus. Finally, making memorable photos available to us online is a precious keepsake. A million thanks to all involved in this fantastic program!”  From a Linn County mother of two young birders

“Iowa Young Birders has turned us into avid birders!”  From a Johnson County mother of two young birders

“I enjoyed the leaders and their quiet supportive approach to the new birders. Our grandson learned a lot and came away excited and wanting to learn more. He has asked a plethora of questions. Overall though a great job and a good time was had.”  From a Jasper County grandfather

“This was a great experience for me and my son. We had a great time and learned a few things.”  From a Dickinson County mother
