The Island Green Building Association of St. John, US Virgin Islands, a nonprofit corporation founded in 2004, is composed of a group of concerned construction industry professionals, residents, and property owners based on St. John, USVI, with members throughout the region promoting responsible and sustainable development practices.

What we believe:

Change is inevitable. Loss and compromise of our environmental and cultural resources are not. When planned and completed in a responsible way, development can provide us with a sustainable economic base, without sacrificing our unique natural diversity, ecological health, sense of community, and quality of life.

What we do:

We encourage community development, building construction and management practices that are in harmony with our fragile terrestrial and marine ecosystems and support conservation of the Virgin Islands National Park. We discourage development practices that have a negative impact on our pristine environment.

How we do it:

We hold seminars and conduct educational outreach programs presenting information on "green" practices and materials. We conduct certification programs to recognize owners, builders and managers who meet specific "green" criteria. We maintain a web site as a source of information related to our mission.
