Our Journey

As a donor mother, Lori Malkin was inspired by the amazing legacy my son Jeffrey “JJ” Johns left after his passing. It became her passion to inspire and educate my community about the importance of organ and tissue donation. She started JJ’s Legacy in 2009 to honor Jeffrey, and it has grown to be so much more than she ever imagined! Today, JJ’s Legacy is educating and inspiring our community to become registered organ and tissue donors and honoring donor families and recipients in Kern County. Jeffrey saved five lives through organ donation and enhanced fifty lives through tissue and cornea donation.

Our Mission

The mission of JJ’s Legacy is to honor the legacy of Jeffrey Johns by educating Kern County residents and inspiring them to become registered organ and tissue donors, and by providing compassionate support to donor and recipient families.

Your Support

Your generous contribution allows JJ’s Legacy to accomplish its mission. A few of the ways JJ’s Legacy does this include: 

• Providing support for local donor families to participate in the Donate Life float at the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California
• Awarding grants to local organ and tissue transplant recipients at our annual Gala
• Educating Kern County residents about organ and tissue donation through public service announcements (PSAs) and media campaigns 
• Provide transportation assistance for post transplant treatment
• Provide support group therapy on a weekly basis that is open to all donors, families, recipients and those awaiting for transplant
• Rose Dedication Garden sponsor which gives an opportunity to honor donors, families, recipients and candidates waiting for transplant with a personalized rose placed on the Donate Life Rose Parade® Float
