The Junior League of Shreveport-Bossier's mission is to advance women’s leadership for meaningful community impact through volunteer action, collaboration, and training. Each year we research and develop projects with the goal of improving our community. Volunteers are then trained to execute these projects.

For the current league year, the JLSB's members have supported the following community projects:

Artist for a Day: Artist for a Day offers FREE art education to children attending the Red River Revel by providing a hands-on art experience at the Artist for a Day Tent. Different art mediums are used throughout the week, often aligning with various themes. In the past, junior artists have gotten a chance to explore the styles of other artists as well as create pieces inspired by children’s books. We look forward to getting creative with the youth of our community each year and are proud to be a part of the long-standing tradition of the Red River Revel.

This community project is near and dear to the hearts of the Junior League of Shreveport-Bossier, Inc. In 1976, the Junior League of Shreveport partnered with the Shreveport Regional Bicentennial Commission to bring the community their own immersive arts festival for all ages, as a Bicentennial gift to the community. The Red River Revel, winner of the 1988 President’s Volunteer Action Award, was designed with the goal to provide the general populace a celebration of the finest visual and performing arts experiences. The original festival housed multiple demonstration tents (2 for adults and 6 for children). The festival also invited 12,000 Bossier and Caddo school students in on the fun. Students partook in what was then called “Children’s Aesthetic Education.” Students were immersed in the arts through various demonstrations and workshops in all areas of the arts, led by the artists themselves. Over time, this program has transitioned to our now beloved Artist for a Day community project.

In partnership with the Red River Revel, Inc., Artist for a Day serves 1500+ children each fall at the festival. In 2025, we started alternating free art activities at Shreveport Regional Arts Council's ARTBreak Festival and Bossier Parish School's I3 event. These free art projects teach children about different artists and art mediums.

Red Apron Pantry: The JLSB works to end food insecurity in our area by serving families with our client’s choice food pantry. Our pantry serves clients on the third Thursday of each month. The Junior League of Shreveport-Bossier is here to provide that help with our very own Red Apron Pantry: a League-organized, year-round monthly food pantry. Since it started operations in 2018, the Red Apron Pantry has been successful in serving families in our area. At the end of 2019, they were providing 75 pounds of healthy food to 15 families each month. The food pantry experienced a spike in early 2020, when more than 1,200 pounds of food were distributed. The Red Apron Pantry is happy to announce that, during this unprecedented time, they were able help the Food Bank of North Louisiana distribute emergency food when other food banks closed. Thanks to the donors who so graciously gave and to volunteers within the Red Apron Pantry and throughout the League, nearly 7,000 pounds of food was passed out in the months of March and April 2020!

The Red Apron Pantry has been an important and special community project from its very beginning. Through this program we provide necessary, monthly supplemental nutrition to households in need, which addresses a core problem of food insecurity in our community. Our League is honored to do what we can to minimize the impact of the crisis by continuing to provide food to our regular clients and many more new clients finding themselves in need at this time.

M.A.G.I.C. (Mentoring Ambitious Girls to Inspire Change): Launched in 2014, M.A.G.I.C. has become a beloved placement in the League. Volunteers throughout the years have been extraordinary examples of leadership.

Twice each month, JLSB M.A.G.I.C. volunteers coordinate programs organized around topics such as building confidence and self-esteem, encouraging creativity, peer pressure, mental health, hygiene, healthy friendships and relationships, etiquette, literacy and careers, voluntarism, healthy lifestyles, and making responsible decisions. The interactive programs help girls navigate society, encourage study, and show teens more of the world around them. The M.A.G.I.C. program is fun for all and leaves participants with positive examples they can adopt in their own lives.

We annually award two young ladies in the community with $1,000 scholarships. One is allotted for a young lady that has participated in our M.A.G.I.C. program. This truly inspires change among the young ladies in our community.
