The Japan-America Society of Pennsylvania seeks to promote local understanding of and mutually beneficial participation in the changing U.S.-Japan relationship by: * Providing relevant and timely information to both business and the general public, * Providing a forum for contact and dialogue between the state's American and Japanese business/professional communities, * Introducing an exchange of cultural ideas and, in general, * Promoting good will concerning the U.S.-Japan relationship

The Japan in the Schools program in conjuction with Pittsburgh Taiko (Japanese drumming)met with over 3,000 students. Classroom presentations included Japanese cultural demonstrations and lectures on various aspects of Japanese history and social issues. JASP volunteers are trained to utilize their unique talents such as origami and ikebana and communicate their general knowledge about Japan. Pittsburgh Taiko provided dynamic demonstrations and workshops to schools all over Western PA and in West Virginia.
