The JEKL Institute for Global STEAM Equity & Access was founded by black woman who holds degrees in physics and advanced degrees in mechanical and nuclear engineering. Toi Massey, M.E., knows all too well the tables from which those that look like her are absent. She believed if ever there would be an equitable number of BIPOC girls and African American youth contributing to the STEM professions, including art+design (STEAM), she would have to do her part to make it happen.

So, by meeting them where they are today in order to actively engage and prepare them for where they could be headed tomorrow, she exposes scholars, awakening their genius, empowering them with the audacity to dream BIG!

With programs that serve metro Denver and rural Colorado, The JEKL Institute has expanded to include efforts to close the digital divide, placing laptops into the hands of those we train in digital and financial literacy!
