Jewish Family Services of Greater Orlando Inc

In March of 2011, Jana enrolled in the 6-month Family Stabilization Program at JFS.  She participates in weekly meetings with her social worker, Dianne Daza, and attends workshops to help her with budgeting, vocational training and life-coping skills.  “Even though it’s  sometimes hard to find a babysitter, I look forward to my Wednesdays at JFS,” states Jana.  “I am learning so much about how to make good decisions in life.”

 

Your organization is absolutely AWESOME! Jewish Family Services (JFS) helped me at a time in my life when I really needed it, and I will never forget that.  I am so very impressed with the money management course taught by Tom Hoisington which is  included in the Family Stabilization    That course literally changed my life!  I still have the handouts and my notes from the class.  Of all the education I have received during my lifetime that was one of the most valuable courses I have ever had.  I only wish I could have had it in high school. The mistakes I could have avoided!  That class is so incredibly valuable.  It needs to be taught in the high schools to our young people!  Please say hello to Adrienne Cooper, Brenda Medina and Tom Hoisington for me.  They are wonderful people, and I hope they are doing well.

 

Chrissie is a young mother of 2.  Her husband was sent away to prison before her second child was born.  This left Chrissie in a tough predicament: having to fend for herself and her two kids alone. With everything to lose, she really had to gain some type of direction for her life. Chrissie’s cousin told her that she could receive help from Jewish Family Services. Chrissie says, “The FSP really held me accountable to life, I had deadlines and I had to report back to Adrienne, my counselor.” Upon completion of the program she is now enrolled at the University of Central Florida, and she wants to be a writer.  Anything that she can do to help JFS, she plans to. There is no doubt in her mind that JFS gave her a gift she can take with her forever – a new start in life.
