John F Kennedy Middle School Parent-Teacher Organization

John F Kennedy Middle School is a Title 1(serves a high percentage of underserved and low income students) middle school that educates about 700 6th, 7th and 8th grade students from Redwood City and small areas of unincorporated Menlo Park and Atherton. Although physically located in what is known as one of the most affluent areas of the Bay Area, our funding resources for enrichment programs pale in comparison to surrounding area schools.

We believe in the potential of all Kennedy students and our PTO’s goal is help the school provide each student with the tools and experiences that enrich their education while at Kennedy. Some programs we support strongly are instrumental music, field trips, PE, art and drama, programs in which the school district funds only the teacher's salary. Most costs associated with these programs have to be fundraised by volunteers, from instrument repair to art and PE supplies.

At the end of the next school year, Kennedy is also preparing to host its first STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Fair for all its students to showcase culminating projects. This will follow a year-long foray into hands-on scientific experimentation and our PTO intends to fundraise $10,000 for science kits and materials for this endeavor.

In addition to enrichment programs, our PTO also supports community based social services through our school’s Kennedy Family Center. These programs include counselling services, food distribution and parent education classes within our school community.

Our PTO strives to continue supporting the school in elevating expectations and providing novel experiences to make every student's middle school years well-rounded, fulfilling and inspiring.
