Joslyn Institute for Sustainable Communities

A nonprofit organization

$275 raised by 7 donors

Created in 1996 by the University of Nebraska College of Architecture, the Joslyn Institute for Sustainable Communities (JISC) focuses on the built environment to promote sustainable development. Today, the Joslyn Institute works independently from the University in its advocacy and modeling of sustainable design and development.

Guided by the vision of W. Cecil Steward, our President and CEO, JISC partners with stakeholders at multiple levels - from small neighborhoods to large cities - to promote sustainable development and resource conservation, and to improve health and quality of life for all.  JISC works locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally.

This year - 2016 - we are celebrating an important milestone, our 20 Year Anniversary!

Here are a few of our many success stories:

  • The Urban Thinkers Campus
  • The Conversation Conferences
  • The Nebraska Sustainability Leadership Workshops
  • Nebraska Nexus
  • Envisioning Regional Design

Here are a few of our current projects:

  • Our association with The World Urban Campaign (http://www.worldurbancampaign.org/)
  • Sustaining the Conservation of Nebraska Environmental Resources (generously funded by the Nebraska Environmental Trust)
  • Exploring the possibility of establishing a regional Food Hub
  • Incorporating climate change impacts into sustainable development planning

Please see our website (www.joslyninstitute.org) for details regarding the above and many other initiatives, projects, and resources!
