About Us:

The Korean American Coalition - Los Angeles (KAC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established in 1983 to promote the civic and civil rights interests of the Korean American community. KAC endeavors to achieve these goals through education, community organizing, leadership development, and coalition-building with diverse communities:

KAC programs and services are centered on three core pillars of focus with the C.A.L. acronym - Civic Engagement/Community Advocacy, Alternative Dispute Resolution, and Leadership Development.

  • Civic Engagement & Community Advocacy: Our civic engagement services include assistance with citizenship applications, voter registration and education, and providing information on the Census as the Census Information Center (CIC). We engage in various community advocacy activities addressing the current issues affecting our community. With the subsequent rise in anti-Asian hate, KAC has made it a priority to promote the safety of our community members by assisting them with reporting hate crimes and hate incidents. We also create and disseminate multimedia educational content to raise awareness about anti-Asian hate, and continue to provide in-language bystander intervention training for community members.
  • Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Center: The KAC ADR Center is dedicated to providing bilingual and culturally appropriate mediation and conciliation services to low-income non-English-proficient community members. With over 65% of our clients having an annual household income below $20,000, our services are crucial in providing access to justice and resolving conflicts. All KAC staff members are certified mediators that provide bilingual case assistance free of charge to low-income Los Angeles County residents. In 2023, we served 352 parties with a client satisfaction rate in the 97th percentile.
  • Leadership Development: KAC provides various leadership development programs, including the Model United Nations (MUN) Program for middle & high school students and the National College Leadership Conference (NCLC) and Summer Internship program for young leaders/professionals to equip them with the ability to become capable leaders in community and civic affairs.

OUR MISSION:

  • To be an effective bilingual advocate for the Korean American community by articulating community concerns and interests, and establishing channels of communication with elected officials, private and public agencies, other community organizations, media and the general public.
  • To promote and advocate for the civil and civic rights interests of Korean Americans, increasing civic and legislative awareness and the general social consciousness of the Korean American community.
  • To be an informational resource and referral for and about the Korean American community.
  • To maintain networks of communication and cooperation between KAC and other organizations in the Korean American community as well as with organizations representing other racial and ethnic communities.
  • To maintain a viable working organization composed of first, second, and third generation Korean Americans.
  • To organize and implement leadership development programs encouraging Korean American students to become capable leaders in community and civic affairs.
  • To serve those in the low to moderate income brackets.
