KALW is an NPR-affiliate known for experimentation and innovation, reflecting the vibrant and diverse spirit of the Bay Area community.

KALW is the first FM station west of the Mississippi, celebrating 75 years on the air in 2016! 

All the locally produced programming on KALW, such as Your Call, Crosscurrents, 99% Invisible, Philosophy Talk (originating at Stanford University), Sandip Roy’s Dispatches from Kolkata, West Coast Live and most of our music programs, truly spring from the intellectual and cultural riches of the Bay Area – and the fundamental connection between KALW and this amazing community is listener support.

In addition, we present national and international news programs from NPR, the BBC, and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.

KALW is looking to the future as never before – and it is all because of listener support, which keeps us independent and non-commercial.
