Kearney Area Animal Shelter Inc

 

Since 2006, the Kearney Area Animal Shelter has provided shelter for thousands of animals. We have adopted out over 7200 animals and every one of them has been spayed or neutered to reduce pet overpopulation in the Kearney area. We actively encourage pet owners to do their part in helping reduce homelessness amongst pets. Educating the public on the lifetime commitment they are making to these animals,  is one of our main priorities.

The Kearney Area Animal Shelter is an independent organization and we do not share or receive funding from national or state humane organizations. We rely almost entirely on donations to fund our operations.

The shelter not only acts a housing facility for stray animals, but we also put forth rescue efforts within our community. When emergency situations arise, the shelter will do everything they can to provide shelter for abandoned animals. Whether an owner has passed or a breeding facility has closed, the shelter will step in when we can to take on the animals left behind.

Donations not only go to the day-to-day operations of the animal shelter, but to assist in funding emergency care for stray animals that have medical needs. For example, in the past year the shelter has found homes for stray dogs and cats that needed medical care ranging from amputations, eye removal, cancer treatment, heartworm treatment, and upper respiratory.   All the expense is taken on by the shelter so  each animal is given a fair chance at being adopted. This way the right family can give them the  best home they deserve. Whether 3-legged, 1-eyed or completely healthy when adopted out, every animal is special to us and their stories of success keep the staff and volunteers of the shelter motivated to work just as hard for every animal that comes through the shelter.
