Why We Need YOUR Help

A study conducted for Kent County in 2001 identified the county’s southeast region as having the greatest need for additional park and recreation facilities, due to rapidly growing population and relatively few existing parks. In response, Kent County Parks began a multi‐year effort to acquire unique natural areas to hold for future park development.

One of these future parks will be at the confluence of the Thornapple and Coldwater Rivers. In 2007, the Parks Department acquired 91 acres of wetlands, woods and fields for "Two Rivers Park," including more than 3 miles of river and backwater frontage. The Parks Department currently has the rare opportunity to acquire four parcels of land, totaling 170 acres that would nearly triple the size of the park.

Our goal for Two Rivers Park is to create a regional destination park in the southeast, one that will attract a strong contingent of visitors from the city core as well as neighboring communities. To meet this goal, we’ll need to expand the park to incorporate a wider variety of topographic features suitable to mountain bike trails, picnicking, hiking and other uses. Let's make this new opportunity happen!
